In 2001, Roush offered up some competition to the likes of Steeda, Kenny Brown and Saleen with a 3 stage performance offering of Ford approved aftermarket performance packages. Naturally, the stage 3 cars came packed with the most goodies and this low milage triple black convertible is the one to own.
The Stage 3 cars were is easy to pick out from the pack. They have a muscular front valance which included driving lights and a lower grill portion, special rocker panels and a side exit exhaust. Lurking behind the front valance is an intercooler in charge of keeping the air-to-water intercooler as cool as possible. The cars sat on 18" chrome wheels with an equally large brake package in the background. The brakes consist of a front set up featuring14" Alcon rotors with 4-piston Alcon calipers and a production Cobra caliper in the rear. Per original press reports on the Roush Stage 3 cars, the brakes offered fade free stopping in rigorous track conditions by journalists who were out looking for shortcomings. Backing up the wheel and tire package is a Stage 3 suspension kit which features progressive rate springs, struts, sway bars and aluminum lower control arms. Not only does the suspension offer up awesome handling, but it was subjected to manufacturer level testing before being release on a production car.
The business end of the Stage 3 package comes courtesy of an Eaton M90 supercharger which is perched atop the factory 4.6 motor. The setup uses a BBK, 70 MM throttle body and the blower boosts to 6 pounds via an air-to-water intercooler. As with any production car, power addition has to be long lived as well, and the package puts out 360HP and 375lbs-ft of torque with the reliability of any everyday driver. Additional Roush Stage 3 specs include a Hi-Po intake manifold, Bosch fuel injectors and light weight flywheel, giving the Stage 3 cars, in total, a cool 100 HP increase over stock! Power is fed though a Tremec 3560 5-speed transmission and the rear end is an 8.8" unit with 3.23 gears.
For a low mileage collectible ponycar that’s sure to provide tremendous upside for the future as well as one hell of a good time today, this Roush Stage 3 Mustang Convertible is just what the doctor ordered.
