Chevrolet Corvair

SOLD

This is an exceptionally nice and rare example of a fully restored 1961 Corvair Rampside pickup, but it’s important to know a brief history of the model.

The Corvair Greenbrier Sportswagon, and Corvair 95 Trucks were about as different from contemporary American-built vehicles as you could get. They were so European in design that they shouldn’t even be compared to normal U.S. built trucks of that era. As the Greenbriar project developed, project planners decided to eliminate some windows and create a truck that was essentially a panel-side delivery van. The upper rear part of the body was cut off to create a truck similar to the Volkswagen pickup, except the Corvair pickup was given a unique hinged-at-the-rocker-panel, ramp-type door.

The history on this Rampside is rich. A three page letter from the second owner (1967-1991) to the restorer details usage, repair history, and his general fondness for the truck over the years.

The Rampside was restored in the late 1990s, kept in a climate controlled garage, and used only for car shows since restoration. In 1999, it was chosen by Hemmings Motor News to be the calendar truck for the month of February.
