Originally announced in the February Product Bulletin, the Z11 optioned RS/SS Camaro convertible was initially planned to be distributed to all 6,400 Chevrolet dealerships, although the actual production numbers were only 3,675 (which included the vehicles used at Indianapolis during the race). The required options for the Z11 package included C05 white convertible top, D80 spoilers, YA1 deluxe seatbelts, ZJ7 rally wheels, ZL2 special ducted hood, Z22 Rally Sport, Z27 Super Sport, and Z87 custom interior (orange houndstooth, code 720). Cloth seats were not otherwise available in a convertible.
This 1969 Camaro RS/SS Pace Car received a frame off rotisserie restoration and has less than 200 test miles on the chassis. This is an original 396/350 HP car that has been restored with an engine that was built up to the 375 HP spec that is accompanied by a 4 Speed box. Equipped with both power steering and power brakes, the Camaro is easy to cruise and the 375 HP motor rolls out big power and wheel chirping torque. The 12 bolt rear end has 3.73 posi gears that lock up nicely and provide that needed traction.
The restoration was completed with a laser straight, show quality body. The Camaro has been finished on a rotisserie yielding a high quality finish on all painted parts, not just the top side. The under carriage has a tremendous amount of detail that beautifully recreates the original factory finish as seen on these wonderful muscle cars. The front sub frame has been media blasted and finished in the correct black as have all of the accompanying suspension components. All the the brake calipers, lines and shields are very correct looking and have been completed with the correct markings and stickers. The floor boards are finished in a crisp black and all of the bushings, lines, and fasteners are factory fresh. On the top side of the car, all of the stainless trim has been replaced and the front and rear bumpers have nice, new chrome. The wheels are all refinished and the upgraded radial tires provide a more accomodating ride than the original bias ply units.
The interior is completely new and crisp and stands tall complete with the correct hounds tooth treatments. All of the glass is new and the top is a power unit. All gauges, switches and finishes are factory fresh and ready for show.
