This 1932 Ford Kugel Speedster was built using a Zipper body that features a stretched interior and stretched doors. The build is turn key and ready to tour. All of the body work and paint was done by Danny Settle and features a body color undercarriage which has been color-sanded and rubbed to match the finish as seen on the rest of the car.
All of the chassis and fabrication work on the Speedster was performed by Ron Attebury who has built everything from Top Fuel dragster frames to Bonneville cars to Hot Rod chassis since the early 1970’s. The fabrication quality is second to none, and it has to be when your chassis are used in Top Fuel dragsters. The front end of the car features a very trick Kugel push-rod suspension. These types of suspensions feature inboard shocks as seen on open wheel race cars which both move the shocks out of the airstream and decrease unsprung weight close to the wheels. The Speedster has Wilwood brakes up front and the rear Wilwood brakes are incorporated into the Boyd Coddington fully polished independent rear end. Bitchin’.
Power comes from a ZZ350 motor which has been blueprinted to ZZ430 Specs. The motor makes a stout 450 HP and has polished accessories, Jet Hot coated headers and exhaust system and Griffin Radiator to keep everything cool up front. The gas tank is a custom aluminum unit with custom stainless lines and fasteners. Cruising is great courtesy of the 700R-4 overdrive transmission. It pops of quick shifts and then drops into top gear for low RPM highway cruising.
All wiring is a nifty little Ron Francis system and all of the custom gauges are by Autometer. The custom interior was done by Sid Chavers and features heated seats, a leather-wrapped dash, wool carpeting and Mercedes Benz leather. It is very nicely assembled and comfortable to boot.
Driving the car is a blast and the acceleration is just right. The Zipper handles great both on side streets and out on the highway. We hit 75, turned on the cruise control and rolled down the highway with a ride smooth as a baby’s butt.
