This 1965 Chevy Chevelle SS is a real 138 code Super Sport car finished in its correct original colors. Beyond that, the Chevrolet is a really nicely done high performance muscle car that has received a rotisserie restoration a few years ago. Featuring a built 396 big block, 700R4 overdrive transmission, and super slick paint, there isn’t much that any car enthusiast wouldn’t like about this super quick drop top.
If you want to get detailed in any restoration, you first have to get the body off the frame so that you can get the bottom of the vehicle in as good of shape as the top of the car. After removing the body from the frame, the Chevelle was media blasted down to bare metal and the frame was also stripped of all of its original finish and scale. After repairing and straightening the body, and after the frame was repainted, the body was set back onto the frame for the completion of the bodywork. The result is a super straight car with excellent gaps, and nicely wet sanded paint. It would show well anywhere and in fact was featured at the World of Wheels show in Detroit.
A nice looking car with a weak heart just isn’t that much fun, but a looker with Secretariate sized ticker will probably also get your blood flowing. The performance motor in this runner is a 396 based engine that makes a stout 500 HP at 10 to 1 compression. It runs excellent on pump gas and the 750 Holley pairs up really nicely. The Merlin square port heads really flow and the hydraulic cam has a nice lope at idle and a screamer of a top end. When you roll on the power you will notice the 2500 stall converter at work and the smooth shifting 700 R4 transmission. You can lay down some rubber with the 3.73 Eaton Posi gears housed inside the famous 12 bolt Chevy rear end.
The car is a blast to cruise. It is fast, smooth, great on the highway, and perfect for a little romp off the line. The overdrive transmission makes it happen for highway cruising and of course is tried and true on the byways. The car rides on 2" drop spindles, with custom made billet wheels clad in modern rubber. The brakes are a great set up from SSBC and pair well with the big motor.
If you are looking for a convertible cruiser, the are not many of these awesome drop tops around and there are even fewer completed to this caliber.
