There are old muscle cars and then there are over-the-top restorations like this beautiful 1967 Camaro Pro-Touring car. The attention to detail on this car is just crazy. Three years after the start of the project, an impeccably refinished 1967 Camaro emerged that is much nicer that one you could have ever purchased off the showroom floor.
The Camaro’s smooth ride and great handling come courtesy of a Stage III Pro Touring kit from the great folks over at Classic Performance Products in California. The car uses adjustable QA1 shocks on all four corners for a smooth and controlled ride. Upfront, the Camaro has tubular upper and lower control arms and a coil over setup. Out back, the Camaro has new CPP leaf springs. The front sway bar is new 1 1/8" while the rear is a little smaller at 7/8", together, they do a great job at controlling body roll in the turns. Bringing the Chevrolet to a stop is a 4-wheel disc kit from CPP which includes their MCPV-1 master cylinder. This particular car was set up with a vacuum assist unit, so the car comes to a quick and controlled stop with little effort from the driver. Prior to reassembly of all the suspension components, the front sub frame was powdercoated in gloss black for a clean and durable finish. The wheels are 18×8 Boss 338s with 225 40/18" up front and 18×9.5" Boss 338s with 265/35/18 in the rear.
The body of the Camaro is slick and straight as can be. The paint job alone was $15k and the results are evident. The body lines are dead on, the sides of the car are with without a ripple, and the clear coat is free from any texture and is as smooth as glass. All the trim on the car is new as well as all of the stainless and chrome work. The glass was also replaced during the restoration, as was all of the body hardware and of course every last piece of rubber/trim. The car underwent a proper restoration where all of the finer points were attended to.
The motor is a 454 crate engine with Comp Cam performance camshaft, Clevite bearings, a Melling oil pump, Melling pushrods, double roller timing set and full roller rocker arms. It lays down a conservative 450 HP and runs nice and cool thanks to an oversized aluminum radiator and electric Derale fan. The exhaust is custom built with mandrel bends and uses a set of stainless mufflers for a big fat muscle car sound. The transmission is a built TH 400, and the rear end is a 12 bolt with 3.55 Posi gears.
The interior is mint from front to rear. It’s so nice, the even the paint accents have been wet sanded and buffed to a mirror finish! All of the soft parts are new as well, including the crash pad, deluxe door panels, headliner, visors, package tray etc… The car features Kicker 6 1/2 speakers up front and Kicker 6×9 speakers in the rear. Mounted in the trunk is a Kicker 12" subwoofer with a remote mounted sub control under the dash. The speakers are run by an additional 1200 watt amp which is also mounted in the trunk under the package tray. For seating, the car has Corbeau seats upfront and custom built rear seats with with matching fabric. The seats are supportive and also very comfortable for longer hauls. The carpeting has been converted over to a cut pile as seen in modern cars and underneath, the car has been treating with sound deadening mating. The windows are power and use new, but original looking GM switches and come from Nu-Relics, the best power window guys in the business. The gauges are all Autometer the center console is custom to accommodate the head unit, and the column is a chrome Ididit tilt setup. Keeping the driver cool in the cabin is a Vintage Air A/C kit running on a billet March serpentine belt system.
For the Camaro enthusiast looking for a freshly build first generation pro-touring car without having to bear the burden of the restoration cost, look no further than this beautiful ’67.
