The W187 was Mercedes-Benz’s line of six-cylinder luxury cars in the early-1950s. It was sold as a sedan, coupe, and cabriolet, all with the 220 model name. Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1951, the 220 sedan was replaced by the W105/W180 line in 1953. The coupe and cabriolet lasted until August of 1955. All 220s used a 2.2 L (2195 cc/133 cid) straight-6 engine producing 80 hp (60 kW). The styling was similar to the 170 S except that the headlights were integrated into the fenders for a slightly more modern look.

With only 72,000 original kilometers, this elegant 1952 Mercedes 220 was held in the prominent Harrah’s Collection for a number of years. It was purchased from the collection 15 years ago and has since resided in the collection of a German Mercedes aficionado in the Northwest. The 220 has been owned in arid climates its entire life and retains a rust-free body and undercarriage. There is no evidence of panel patches, replacements, and the floor boards are original and free from mysterious undercoating. As a true survivor, the car still has the original cords between the body panels, and original retractable canvas top.

For the collector seeking a virgin example of a 220, there are very few unmolested vintage Mercedes on the market, and the window of opportunity to own this car will quickly close.
