Coming off a very successful first production run of the Chevy Camaro, the second generation of the Camaro was a complete redesign featuring sexy curves and a sporty new stance. Only a scant 2,575 Z28s were produced in 1972 due to a production strike at the Norwood Plant that left a planned 38,000 Camaros unbuilt. Over 1,100 cars Camaros were left to sit on the assembly line during the 171 day strike which in the end were donated to technical colleges, as it ended up being far too costly to convert them over to the 1973 model year requirements.

This 1972 Chevy Camaro Z28 is finished in Golden Brown (68) over white interior (780) and comes equipped with its original matching numbers driveline. The car is correctly finished throughout and has a beautifully detailed red oxide primer undercarriage. How does an old car get this nice you ask? All it takes is a complete frame off rotisserie restoration to what was already a really nice original car. After completely disassembling the Camaro down to a bare shell, the body was media blasted and the painter laid down excellent body work and really slick paint. The car retains all of its original glass which is in excellent condition. The chrome on the Camaro is new and all of the trim has been polished out.

While the body was being worked on, the drivetrain was completely rebuilt. The matching numbers CKS code 350/LT1 engine pairs correctly with the 4 speed transmission. The 12/10 dated engine is further proven correct for the car, being built assembled just a few days prior to the car itself. The car is equipped with the correct Winters hi-rise intake with the correct Holley carb. The driver side exhaust manifold has the correct 3988330 casting number and the passenger side has the correct 3989041 casting number. These manifolds are set up for smog equipment all of which is in place. The transmission is an m20/m21 4-speed(difficult to decode these) and the rear end is the correct 3.72 10 bolt posi traction unit.

The car has the correct 11 inch cast iron front disc brakes with the original Delco Moraine booster. In the rear of the car are the 9.5 inch drums that these cars came standard with. The suspension has the upgraded 1" Z28 anti-roll bar and the rear has the revised stabilizer bar. The steering is power which was standard in 1972 and the ratio is the common 16:1 ratio. The car has the correct 15"x7" steel wheel which have been painted body color instead of the more common dull grey. The tires have been upgraded from the standard fiberglass belted to a modern set of radials which ride quite a bit better.

The Z28 is a wonderful driving car that was given a new lease on life in as close to original condition as possible. The car received a complete restoration 6 years ago and has been driven less than 800 miles since. The car is as reliable as it is good looking and a solid candidate for a "driven" show car – which in our humble opinion is the most respectable kind.

For the enthusiast looking for a very collectable, low production GM Muscle car built at the end of an era, this car is for you.
