The 1963 Impala SS is a high-performance version of Chevrolet’s popular Impala model. Above the standard model, it features a V8 engine, sporty styling, and improved suspension and braking systems. Offered with a 409 solid lifter engine and dual quads, the powertrain was popular enough to write a song about!
This 1963 Impala SS 409/425 HP 4-speed is an original California car that has been in Missouri for the last 10 years. The car is finished in the original Ember Red(922) over a red interior and features bucket seats, a center console, dual Carter carbs, 4-speed Muncie transmission, Posi rear end P case. You will find the 3Z stamp on the data tag as well as the correct info for the Chevy’s color.
After the car was restored, it has been shown and driven to shows for the last 10 years. It’s been stored in a climate controlled garage and has been beautifully preserved. The body is very solid and as far as we can tell, it does not have patch panels or replacement metal. Prior to new paint, the car has nice and straight bodywork, and the door, hood and trunk lines are factory correct. The bright work is nicely restored and we believe it to be good original stuff and not repop junk.
The interior is excellent and properly restored. The car has the correct and working gauges, tach, and the correct wiring under the dash. It also has the correct Delco AM radio, however, a CD player is currently hooked up out of sight in the engine compartment. All of the metal turned trim in the interior is in excellent condition as is the beautiful center console that the car came with.
Pop open the hood and you will find a beautifully restored engine compartment. The QB code 409 has the car’s serial number stamped on the engine pad and the engine was a Tonawanda build on January 8th. The casting date of the engine is 353, the 353rd day of the year, also December 19th. This puts the engine assembly about 2.5 weeks after the casting of the engine block. The block casting is 3830814 which was the block used on all 409 blocks in 1963. The carbs are correct for the 62-64 dual quad cars and bear the following numbers: 3361S and 3362S.
- Engine suffix: QB (409CI/425HP)
- Engine date stamp: 0108 (assembled January 8th)
- Engine casting number: 3830814 (all 409 applications in 1963)
- Engine casting Julian #: 353 (This is the 353th day, also known as December 19th)
- Exhaust manifold casting numbers: Driver side 3822925, Passenger side 3822926
- Carb numbers: 3361S and 3362S
If you are looking for an Impala SS, it’s rare to find one with the 409 dual quad! This classic Chevy will not last for long!
